Hello drew,
I really like these songs/arrangements. Mixing-wise I feel that both are missing midrange and bass. The bass gets buried, maybe you could try to put more low end to it and put it more upfront. The midrange is mainly missing at the guitars - I would encourage you to put some more crunch (maybe in the range from 3k to 5k) to them and use a little less treble on them. A little less treble on the cymbals would help to keep some of the sharpness away, too. I can't distinguish the backing vox from the lead vox, maybe they would benefit from different eq settings - they seem to be very close together soundwise.
I love the singing/voice.
I think you could get to a more balanced mix by listening to similar tunes which are well done in your opinion over your monitoring system. Try to figure out where the differences are for the different elements and treat your mix equal to what you hear.
I hope this helps,
best wishes,
Tannoy.

I used a faster Auto Tune because my client on the first song wanted to sound like Miley Cyrus, and well, she is tuned quite a bit.
My Pro Tools LE Rig hasn't enough channels for me to mix the drums and the rest of the arrangement at the same time, so I had to mix them in advance. I agree that the cymbals/hats have just a little too much treble.
I'm not sure what's meant by heading for the barn, Jimmy.
I appreciate the feedback from both of you. Any other takers?

Diamond in the Rough is very well done. To me it’s as good as anything I hear on the Disney Channel and I’m not being funny because I hear it a lot at home and to me this is as well done on all fronts as that.
